A Brief Summary On NCISM Act

NCISM Act, 2017 (National Commission for Indian System Of Medicine)

The following Act of Parliament received the assent of the President on the 20th September, 2020.

  • National Commission for Indian Systems of Medicine
  • The commission shall comprise a chairperson, 15 ex- officio members and 23 part-time members.
  • Lay down policies for maintaining a high quality and high standards in education of Indian System of Medicine.
  • Advisory Council for Indian Systems of Medicine (ACISM)
  • Main purpose is basically advice to the commission.

A common final year undergraduate medical examination to be known as the National Exit Test shall be held for granting licence to practice as medical practitioner of respective disciplines of Indian System of Medicine and for enrollment in the State Register or National Register, as the case may be.

  • National examination(under the purview of NCISM)
  • NEET UG under the purview of NCISM.
  • Common counselling under the purview of NCISM.
  • A common final year undergraduate medical examination to be known as the National Exit Test shall be held for granting licence to practice as medical practitioner of respective disciplines of Indian System of Medicine and for enrollment in the State Register or National Register, as the case may be.
  • The National Exit Examination for Indian systems of Medicine shall become operational within 3 years from the date on which this Act comes into force, as may be appointed by the Central Govt., by notification.
  • Any person with a foreign medical qualification shall have to qualify national Exit Test for the purpose of obtaining licence to practice as medical practitioner of ISM.
  • A uniform PG National Entrance Test shall be conducted separately for admission to PG courses.
  • Common counselling for PG Courses.
  • A National Teachers’ Eligibility Test shall be conducted separately For the postgraduates of each discipline of ISM.
  • The National Teachers’ Eligibility Test for Indian systems of Medicine shall become operational within 3 years from the date on which this Act comes into force, as may be appointed by the Central Govt., by notification.

A uniform PG National Entrance Test shall be conducted separately for admission to PG courses.

  • Autonomous Boards
  • Board of Ayurveda
  • Board of Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa
  • Medical Assessment And Rating Board for Indian Systems of Medicine 
  • Board of Ethics And Registration for Indian Systems of Medicine Medicine

A National Teachers’ Eligibility Test shall be conducted separately For the postgraduates of each discipline of ISM.

  • Miscellaneous
  • Reporting by Universities And Medical Institutions For Indian Systems of Medicine
  • Every medical institution under this act shall at all times maintain a website and display all such information as may be required by the Commission or the Board(s).
  • Any student of Indian Systems of Medicine in a medical institution who, immediately before the commencement of this act was studying for a degree, diplomas or certificate in any such institution shall continue and complete his course for that degree diplomas or certificate as the case maybe, and such institutions shall provide for the instruction and examination of such student in accordance with syllabus and studies as existed before commencement of this act.
  • Repeal of Act of 1970
  • The Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970 is hereby repealed and the Central Council of Indian Medicine constituted under section 3 of the said Act shall stand dissolved.
