- Morphological Description –
- Small to medium sized tree with greenish grey or red bark with alternate, pinnate small leaves.
- Height :- 8-18 mtr.
- Flowering :- Feb. to May
- Fruiting :- Oct. to Apr.
- Flowers :- Small, inconspicuous, greenish- yellow flowers. Borne in compact clusters in axile of lower leaves.
- Fruit :- Pale yellow, fleshy with 6 obscure vertical furrow. It is about 2 cm in diameter.
- Chemical Constituents – Gallic acid, Tannic acid, Tannins, Flavonoids, Pectins and Vitamin C ( 20X more than orange swaras). It also contains proteins, fat , minerals, carbohydrate, Ca, P, Fe etc.
- Rasa – Pancharasa, Alawan, Amlapradhana (पंचरस , अलवण , अम्लप्रधान)
- Guna – Guru, Ruksha, Shita
- Virya – Shita.
- Vipaka – Madhur.
- Karma – Tridoshahara specially Pittasamak. It is also dahaprashaman, chakshushya, keshya, jwaraghna, Hrit & Shonitsthapan.
